I've been running Windows 10 since its public launch and not had a problem until now. Suddenly it's started write protecting USB drives when I plug them in. It started yesterday when I plugged a drive in and Windows detected a problem with the drive and instructed me to scan and repair, which I did. I can view the content but not write or delete. I tried the drive in another machine using Windows 7 and it said that the drive malfunctioned. I put this down to a faulty drive although it has never failed me before.
Today, I plugged a different USB flash drive into the laptop and was again informed that the drive needed scanning and repairing. The repair was successful and I began copying files but after a minute or two the copy failed and a notification popped up that the drive was write protected. Again, I can view and access the files and can copy from the drive but cannot write to or edit. As it happens, the data on these two drives are unimportant, but I now fear connecting my media centre drive or work memory stick as the data on those drives are much more important.
The only thing I can think of is that something on a system update at the weekend has caused this problem because I've used USB flash drives on this new laptop under Windows 8 and Window 10 with no problem before.
I hope someone can shed some light on this matter.

*UPDATE*
I've just tried another, old Kingston Data Traveler USB drive knowing that it's good quality and never let me down, and also knowing that the data on it is not important. I plugged it in and had the same message stating that there was something wrong with the drive and instructing me to repair. I ignored the message and the drive window opened, I have deleted folders and am currently writing £Gb of data to it with no problem.
So, the problem appears to be Windows 10 determining that there are non-existent problems on the flash drive and the repair process locking them.

Now all I need to do is to try and reverse the write protection on these two drives. I've tried the cmd and regedit methods with no success.
